Frequently Asked Questions
Where would we meet?
I work from quiet and confidential consulting rooms in St Albans.
How long do sessions last, and how many sessions will I need to come for?
We would normally meet for one fifty-minute session each week.
Some people want to come for just a few sessions (e.g. around 6-12 sessions), while others find it helpful to come over a longer period of time. If you want to set a limit on the number of sessions you receive, you can say so. Otherwise it is for you and me to agree this as we go along.
How much will therapy cost?
Fees are between £70 and £95, depending on location and time of day. I offer initial consultations at a reduced rate of £60. I do offer a small number of lower fee places for those on more limited incomes - please feel free to contact me about these. I can also suggest local organisations that might be able to help you (if you are unable to afford to pay for private therapy). Please see my resources page.
Missed appointments or cancelled sessions are chargeable in full, apart from in exceptional circumstances. This enables me to reserve your usual weekly appointment time.
If you are unable to keep your regular appointment, please contact me a.s.a.p. in advance so that I can offer you an alternative session in that week if possible.
When do you have appointments available?
I offer daytime appointments, and sometimes have early morning appointments available (from 7:30am). Some clients have found that early morning sessions can provide a particularly quiet, clear and creative space in which to think about one’s life, as well as fitting in with a busy schedule.
What will an initial consultation involve?
It is important that you choose a therapist who feels ‘right’ for you. The initial consultation will be a chance to meet me and ask questions, as well as to discuss what is troubling you. Talking about your worries and difficulties will sometimes mean that you feel anxious and awkward, and this is completely understandable and human. I will structure the session in a way that responds to your needs. We may agree some exercises to try at home and report back on.
There is no obligation to continue to have therapy after attending the initial consultation.
I offer initial consultations at a reduced rate of sixty pounds.
Can I arrive early for sessions?
I do not have a waiting area, so please arrive at the time of your session. This also helps to preserve your anonymity, as it will avoid the possibility of bumping into other clients as they leave earlier sessions.
How do I make initial contact?
If you would like to meet for an initial session, then please contact me using the contact link on this website. Alternatively, you can call me on on 07483 831831. Please do not be deterred if you initially get through to an answer-phone – I will get back to you as soon as I am able.
